Download Maps, As Easy As 1-2-3!

Thanks to Peter Strickler for his great information - downloading maps for Efficasoft GPS Utilities has never been easier!

You need two programs:

• Firefox - Free web browser from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox
• Screengrab - Firefox screenshot plug-in, available free from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1146

Here are the steps:

1. You can jump to Step 3 if you alreay have Firefox installed. Otherwise, open a browser and point it to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox (1).
2. Click 'Firefox 3 Free Download' (2) to download and install Firefox.
   
   
   
   
3. Launch Firefox and open https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1146 (3).
4. Click 'Add to Firefox' (4) to install plug-in 'Screengrab'.
   
   
   
   
5. You should now be able to see the Screengrab icon in Firefox status bar, as shown in (5)
   
   
   
   
6. Launch Firefox and open http://www.google.com (6) then 'Maps' (7).
   
   
   
   
7. Enter 'New York' for example in (8), and click 'Search Maps' (9).
   
   
   
   
8. And we get map of New York.
   
   
   
   
9. Mark the center of the map you want to download by pressing the right mouse button and selecting 'Center map here', as show in (10).
10. Zoom in/out until you get the satisfactory resolution.
    
    
    
    
11. Click 'Link' as show in (11), and then 'Customize and preview embedded map' as in (12).
    
    
    
    
12. Click 'Custom' as show in (13)
    
    
    
    
13. Enter your required size, e.g. Width 4000 Height 4000 (14), maximum 9000x9000.
    
    
    
    
14. Click the 'Screengrab' icon in the lower-right corner, select 'Save...', then 'Complete Page/Frame...' to save the map in PNG or JPG format (15) and mission accopmlished!
